VNAH continued to work to bring disability issues to Vietnam’s national agenda by supporting a series of public awareness activities, such as the First Annual Conference for Persons with Disabilities. This event emphasized in a dramatic way the support of the political leadership for programs designed to encourage and assist in mainstreaming the disabled into broader society. VNAH also began work to make public transportation more accessible to people with disabilities by partnering with the Ministry of Transportation to organize the country’s first national workshop. on accessible transportation. The goal is to introduce and implement standards for buses, trains and other public transportation to ensure they are accessible, which not only benefits the disabled but also the elderly.
