Job Fairs Draw Over 1,000 Job-Seeking Persons with Disabilities

On April 7, 2015, the Blue Ribbon Employers Council coordinated with Disability Research and Capacity Development (DRD) organization to host a Job Exchange Forum for persons with disabilities in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.
The event included twenty enterprises seeking to hire workers with disabilities. More than 1,500 persons with disabilities attended this job exchange forum. Many were interviewed for job opportunities in various occupations, including garment manufacturing, sales, graphic designers, cashiers, telephone operators, and unskilled laborers. The salaries for these jobs range from 3-8 million VND (150-300 USD) per month.
BREC also partnered with the Hanoi Employment Introduction Center (HEIC) to organize an inclusive job fair for persons with disabilities. A dozen BREC employers participated at the job fair, which drew 120 job-seeking persons with disabilities. While results were not available at the time of this writing, it is known that more than 30 persons applied for vocational training; 15 persons were interviewed; and, at least six were offered jobs. Others are waiting to hear about follow-up interviews and additional job offers.
During the job fair, the Center also enlisted the services of local health agencies to conduct health examinations on site. Medical staff members were on hand to conduct free health exams persons with disabilities seeking employment opportunities.
